General documentation tips. Cover depends on your policy wording: storm or vehicle impact is treated differently from wear and tear.

Document

Photograph the door, springs, tracks and opener before anything is repaired, if it is safe.
Note when the damage started and whether a storm, impact or normal use was involved.
Keep receipts for emergency repairs and anything you replace.

Claim

Notify your insurer as your policy requires. A garage door technician can describe the damage and the work done; they do not replace your claim or give legal advice.
